Our Stellar Communities Health Project will help women in Hancock County who are battling addiction find and afford resources that will help combat substance abuse. Our project will establish and dedicate beds at the Talitha Koum Recovery House for pre-incarceration intervention and provide financial assistance toward recovery programming.
The Hancock County Memorial Building, located on North Street in Greenfield, is a gem that can become a place for veterans to find services, programming, and recreational opportunities. A substantial hurdle to this is an elevator. Our proposal will add an elevator and look for feasible ways to add to or improve the floor space and layout of the building.
The Pennsy Trail features health, heritage, and heart components. Built along much of the former path of the Pennsylvania Railroad line running through the heart of Hancock County, the multi-use trail provides a great option for recreation and healthy living. Our proposal seeks to facilitate the expansion of the trail and leverage the local and national history of the route through signage and art.
Homeowner Occupied Repair funds will be used throughout the region to help homeowners make improvements and repairs to their home. This will help preserve and protect some housing units that may be older and less efficient by making needed repairs and improvements that allow residents to stay in their home longer.
Franklin Park will be a 27 acre baseball complex with 12 baseball fields, restrooms, shelters, concessions, parking, and a playground. The playground will be one of the first inclusive playgrounds in the area, with play features that invite children of all abilities to learn and play together.
Greenfield is the birthplace of the Hoosier Poet, James Whitcomb Riley. This trail will celebrate the literary, arts, and cultural history of the community along a route that frames the bustling downtown. Improved crossings will help pedestrians and cyclists across the two state thoroughfares that bisect the downtown.
This project will create a destination park in Downtown Greenfield along the Pennsy Trail. Concepts include an amphitheater, shaded seating areas, and points of interest along the Pennsy Trail. It would provide a great amenity area for growing festivals and entertainment.
To celebrate the legacy of James Whitcomb Riley, a larger event space will be constructed behind the Boyhood Home and Museum campus. This will allow for cultural programming and experience-based exhibits to be added to the Museum’s offerings. We envision poetry readings, time-period styled dinners, and other fun ways to engage in the heritage of the home.
After Greenfield’s successful Main Street Revitalization Program Grant and subsequent Pitch Night Entrepreneur Competition, our Region anticipates doing additional facade enhancements in Greenfield and Fortville that restore and open up new spaces for small businesses and entrepreneurs. Funds will help make needed improvements to historic buildings and assist owners that put so much in to keeping the legacy of our historic core beautiful.
Our proposal seeks to add new housing along the Pennsy Trail to give people additional options to live downtown. This may be a combination of apartments, homeowner occupied repair, and infill new construction units along the trail and surrounding area.
The Main Street project in Fortville will not only improve sidewalk surfacing along the bustling small business corridor, but it will add pedestrian safety features such as crosswalks and bump-outs that reduce the distance a person needs to get travel to cross the street safely.
Approximately two miles of asphalt multi-use trail will follow Fortville Pike and CR 200 W to connect to the Mt. Vernon School area. This project would include safety measures for pedestrian crossings and improve recreation opportunities and connectivity on the south side of the town.
This project will bring additional workforce housing units to Hancock County, and may also include some market rate or senior units. Workforce housing provides rental units at price that is more affordable to retail, service, and some industrial employees in larger market areas where rents and home prices have increased. Nine counties in Indiana are eligible for workforce housing developments.
Fortville has seen great investment from many building owners in the historic core. Grant funds will facilitate additional repairs to facades of buildings and help preserve the heritage and charm of the area at a reduced cost to the owner. Various buildings may be eligible for funds.
Main Street Fortville is home to great local shops and eateries, and has festivals and celebrations throughout the year. The Mill Street Alley project would improve a prominent alley and space in the downtown with seating, lighting, art, and planters.
As part of a “road-diet” intended to convert a high-speed 4-lane roadway into a 3-lane roadway, new sidewalks, lighting, and landscaping would be added along Broadway from Garden Street to Madison Street.
